Gah! 1 through 3

1) Brits and their dental problems: “[Mark Cavendish] has recently had a full dental brace fitted and will wear it for a year to avoid any more problems and possible consequential muscle problems. It seems the pain and problems of the pre-season are in the past and he is confident his form is rapidly improving.” [...]

“Race organizers GSD Productions hope to hold a UCI World Cup cyclocross race in Providence. They had secured a date on the calendar for the 2008-2009 season, but had to cancel when sponsorship fell through. The group hopes to combine the World Cup competition with a bike and wellness expo and amateur races, and is [...]

Gloucester!

I worked at the shop all day on Saturday so was forced to miss the mud-fest that apparently marked the first day of racing at the Gran Prix of Gloucester. Looking at the photos, it appears to have been one of those days that “cycling journalists” like to deem “epic.” I still maintain that the [...]

Think the Tour is over? Think again. Now it’s time for “polemico,” whereby we say snarky things about our competitors to our national newspapers, then complain when the translations appearing in the worldwide press make it sound like we’re much crueler than we intended.

2) Levi Leipheimer broke his wrist? Which one, the one with the Livestrong band, or the one boasting new sponsor RoadID’s [...]

I have two things to say:
1) A Trek won a cobbled classic! (Kind of a classic, in this case.)
2) The kid’s a phenom, for sure.
I got a bit skewered in this space a few months ago when I grumbled about Taylor’s post-Olympics interview on Velonews.com, because I was annoyed that he had seemingly made such [...]

Yet again Marblehead, MA’s most successful cyclist is in the news; this time, it’s for having traces of a banned substance in his system, which he says is the result of having taken some kind of nutritional supplement which claimed to aid in the treatment of depression. An “over the counter anti-depressant,” if you will. [...]

Is it blood doping?

An interesting article on “platelet-rich plasma therapy” suggests that “injecting portions of a patient’s blood directly into the injured area, which catalyzes the body’s instincts to repair muscle, bone and other tissue” may help some sports injuries heal faster.
Considering that there’s a test that can identify “autologous blood doping” – reinjecting one’s own blood to [...]

… when an article about such a nerdy topic as a brand spanking new electronic bicycle shifting apparatus being debuted at the Tour of California is the most emailed story on the NYTimes website.
