1) Brits and their dental problems: “[Mark Cavendish] has recently had a full dental brace fitted and will wear it for a year to avoid any more problems and possible consequential muscle problems. It seems the pain and problems of the pre-season are in the past and he is confident his form is rapidly improving.” [...]

… today a guy on a Merlin passed me, didn’t say hello, and then turned around and spat. On me. I shouted at him, “Did you MEAN to spit on me?” and he didn’t say anything, so I caught him at a subsequent intersection and spilled my venom. We definitely were not smoking any peace [...]

The freaks are out

Today on my ride I spotted three recumbents, and a woman on an adult trike coming dangerously close to running over her own leashed dog. Also, one idiot with time trial bars who buzzed me. Warning: if you ride a Lemond bike with TT bars, you are in my black books. I just my stick [...]

I quit my 30-day challenge after 10 days. It was basically sucking. For reasons I don’t want to begin to speculate about, going to an hour and a half of yoga in a hot room every day started to make me feel very stressed, and I manifested every symptom of major depression! The Boston Globe printed an editorial this week [...]

I was thinking today (while riding my bike of course, a wonderful time to think) about all the things that people do on the bike which I am able to recognize from afar that make me have no respect whatsoever for their skills on the bike. I might like some help with this from readers [...]

I guess the fact that he couldn’t drop a tiny little girl while riding his custom titanium Merlin (while wearing running shorts) must have been frustrating.

I went on a “longer” ride today. The quotes come because I inexplicably rode my bike very little this winter, so what was once my regular, medium length ride has become a bit longer and rarer than usual. It’s unforgivable, being this slow and out of shape in glorious April, when the trees are budding [...]

On my way across the river to Brookline today, I took a very unofficial survey of the bikes zipping down Comm Ave, and I was surprised – though I shouldn’t be – to note that a majority were singlespeeds. I can’t say if they were fixed or not, but many had two sets of brakes. [...]
